MEDICAL MICRODERMABRASION

Medical microdermabrasion refers to procedures that are often carried out under medical supervision. Usually these involve working with severe skin conditions such as keloid scarring.

Any kind of scar tissue requires a deep abrade to be removed effectively. There are a number of medical strength microdermabrasion machines on the market, designed specifically for these types of problems. Some clients elect to do this procedure in a dermatologist's or cosmetic surgeon's office, but beauty therapists are also trained in using medical strength microdermabrasion. Therapists often work with a doctor or surgeon who provides consulting services when required. The therapist may also refer more severe cases to the doctor's care when appropriate.

Medical Microdermabrasion on the Body

Medical microdermabrasion can also used on the body to remove keloid scar tissue or stretch marks. Stretch marks can be the result of pregnancy or sudden (or drastic) weight loss. The number of treatments will depend on several factors, including the length of time since the marks appeared, the age of the client, and the area of the body where they are located.

The body is obviously able to take a much stronger abrade than the face. Machines that will work on all areas of the body are still on the drawing board.
